We connected with Christina Novello to learn more about Melange at 307 Riley Street.
What is Melange, how would you describe it to a friend?
Melange is a collection of Antique, Vintage, Repurposed, Shabby Chic, Rustic and Farmhouse type Furniture, and Home decor. We also offer handmade and new gifts, spa items, and party supplies.
Melange is actually three stores in one location with more than a dozen vendors.
Why did you start the business? What do you hope to accomplish?
I purchased the business 5 years ago because I have a fond love for all that is old and repurposed.
We hoped that by showing the possibilities of things that already existed everyone would love them.
What's something you wish people knew about your business?
That we call ourselves a Boutique Box store because we offer so much in one place. You can buy a gift, a card, and wrapping!
What is a common question you get?
The most common questions is where do you get all this stuff?
The answer is, we scour estate sales and family estates that people offer to us.
What's the biggest compliment you've received?
That a customer had decorated her entire house with purchases from our store.
Are you involved with or do you support any local nonprofits, community organizations or causes?
We allow all local events to be advertised in our windows, and we support any and all events that have to do with the historic district and all of its Museums. We love the local historic history.
Why did you choose to be in the Historic District?
Because of the Historic District’s charm and we are curators of old things.
Are you a member of the chamber or any other networking organizations?
Yes we are members of the Chamber and I am a board member for the Historic District Association.
Do you have any specials that people should know about?
Because so many people come in and love our store we recently made it possible for brides to have a gift registry with us.
They come in an mark the items with a special tag on a Friday, and we hold them through the weekend and send out invites to their friends and families to let them know they can purchase a gift in our store.
